Soma Pill is an effective acute
pain relief medication that is sold as a brand name under the generic
Carisoprodol. Carisoprodol belongs to a class of muscle relaxants called
carbamates. It has been in use since 1959. This medication must be used with
proper rest and physical therapy to get effective relief from acute and muscle
pain or injuries.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this
medication in 2007 originally and it is sold as a prescription drug in the
United States. It has been declared as a controlled drug (Schedule IV) under
the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), 1970 by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
This drug is not a true muscle relaxer. It also works like a
mind relaxer meaning it provides mental relief along with muscle pain relief.
It changes the way a person behaves or reacts to pain.
How to use this drug?
- · It is an oral prescription medication for which you must consult a doctor before purchasing it. Make sure that you are using the medication as instructed by your doctor.
- · It is usually prescribed for a shorter period of time, about 2-3 weeks. Do not take this drug longer than the prescribed time period.
- · It is usually taken about 4 times a day that includes once before bedtime.
- · Do not break, chew, or split the tablets. Also, don’t inhale or inject the medication. Take the pill as a whole with a glass of water.
- · Avoid taking this drug with alcohol or with street drugs. This can lead to some very dangerous effects on your health.
- · Never consume this drug for non-medical purposes. Misuse of this drug can be life-threatening.
- · Never share or sell this drug to others especially if they are prior drug addicts. It is illegal to do so. An addiction to this drug can even lead to death.
- · Store this drug at room temperature away from extreme moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Never keep it in your washroom. Keep it out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
- · Throw away any unused medicine bottles or expired medicine files.
What to do if you miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it immediately as you remember it.
Do not take it if it already time for your next scheduled dose. Also, never
take an extra pill to make up for the missed dose. Skip the missed dose and
take the pills according to your normal dosing schedule.
Use of Soma during pregnancy and
breastfeeding
A pregnant woman must consult a doctor before using this
medication. It is not yet known how Carisoprodol affects an unborn child. The
same goes with women who are planning to get pregnant.
Carisoprodol is highly not recommended for women who are
breastfeeding their baby. It can pass into their breast milk and may develop
symptoms of withdrawal and trouble breathing in the baby. If you are a
lactating mother, do ask your doctor or health physician for a safer
alternative.
Also, note that children or teenagers less than 17 years are
not supposed to receive this drug.
